Initial Situation
With the construction of the Limmattalbahn, Aargau Verkehr AG (AVA) faced the challenge of implementing a modern, seamless radio solution for drivers, dispatchers, and security services – regardless of municipal boundaries or structural specifics along the route. Uninterrupted voice communication was required over the entire line length, as well as a central control center from which operational management could be coordinated in case of incidents.
Customer Requirements
- Seamless, uninterrupted radio coverage over the entire route and at the stops
- Central dispatcher control center for dispatching and incident management
- Clear voice intelligibility even with high vehicle density and in structurally challenging sections
- Alignment with the requirements of operational and infrastructure operators
- Future-proof, scalable design for further expansion
Solution by Motcom
Motcom implemented a highly available continuous wave system via Kairos repeaters, enabling uninterrupted communication along the entire route. Through multiple repeater locations, the radio signal is relayed without audible handover. A central dispatcher control center consolidates dispatching, voice transmission, and alarm management. The system was specifically tailored to the requirements of operations and is designed to be future-proof.
- Analysis and Measurement
- Route measurement, radio coverage assessment, and prognosis calculation over the entire line length
- Planning and Engineering
- Location concept for repeaters and antennas, design of the continuous wave system, control center concept
- Realization
- Installation of the route infrastructure, setup of the dispatcher control center, commissioning and parameterization
- Acceptance
- Measurement drives over the entire route, acceptance protocol, documentation and handover to the operator
- Operation
- Maintenance contract with network management, remote monitoring, and defined response time
Customer Feedback
In operations, one thing ultimately matters: The connection must hold, regardless of where a vehicle is along the route. Motcom has implemented this continuity flawlessly for us – and it proves its reliability every day.
